BJP enjoys the edge in Gorakhpur Rural due to the clout by its Hindutva icon Yogi Adityanath. In 2014 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP candidate from Gorakhpur parliamentary seat, he had secured a lead 43672 of votes over his nearest SP rival Rajmati Nishad in the Gorakhpur Rural assembly segment.
